  • As 1 makes a pass to 2, 4 trails behind setting up their defender for a screen from 5.

  • As 2 receives the pass from 1, 5 steps out to set a backscreen for 4.

  • 4 cuts off of 5's screen looking for a pass from 2. If the pass is made, 4 will drive to the basket for a shot.

  • If 4 does not receive a pass from 2, they should get good position in the ball-side low post area.

  • While 4 is cutting to the basket, 3 will drop to the baseline on the weak side.

youth basketball plays
  • 4 will post up their defender for a two count. If they do not receive a pass, they will clear out to the three-point line. This will help open up the lane.

  • After setting the initial screen for 4, 5 will turn and set a staggered down screen with 1 for 3.

  • 3 will have set up their defender by going to the baseline. 3 will now curl off of the staggered screen and look for a pass from 2.

  • If 3 gets a pass from 2, they should drive to the basket for a shot.

youth basketball plays
  • If 3 does not get a pass from 2, they should continue curling and return to their original spot.

  • After setting the screen for 3, 1 will roll open looking for a pass and scoring opportunity from 2. If the pass is not open, 1 should continue out to the point guard position.

  • 5 will also roll open looking for a pass and scoring opportunity from 2 in the lane area. If the pass is not open, 5 will set up in the high post area ready to set a back screen for 2.

youth basketball plays
  • If 2 is not able to pass to any of the above options, they will reverse the ball by passing to 1.

  • 1 will then pass to 3 at the wing position.

youth basketball plays
  • When 3 has the ball, 5 will set a back screen for 2.

  • 2 will cut to the basket looking for a pass from 3.

  • This is the start of the play from the opposite side of the court. The same principles listed above should be followed.

Best of luck as you implement Youth Basketball Play 2 into your offense. As always, make sure you're players have a solid foundation of the fundamentals of basketball before you try to run this play.
