Youth Basketball Offensive Plays - "Special Plays"

What are these special situations and why are they so critical? Well, I'm glad you asked! The special situations or plays covered in this section focus on the following areas: Jump Ball, Baseline out-of-bounds, Sideline out-of-bounds, and Last-second shots. Practicing and improving these areas of the game is often the difference between success and failure on the basketball court. Being properly prepared for these situations gives the players and team a distinct advantage on the court. We've all seen teams that don't seem to have a clue when it comes to these special areas of the game. The coach just doesn't seem to have a plan in place for the various situations the team will face throughout a game. The results: Chaos! The team has to try and figure things out on the fly. "Oh no, there's five seconds left - what should we do?" That's not a good situation to be in, for the players or coach. The unsuccessful results are inevitable! On the other hand, we've also seen teams that seem to be prepared for everything they will encounter during the game. From the jump ball situation to the last shot of the game. The coach has a definite plan for the players. The players can play with confidence because they know they have been properly prepared to handle any situation they will face during the game. The youth basketball offensive plays in this section will help prepare coaches and players for the special situations that occur throughout a basketball game. By being properly prepared, the coach is putting their players in a position to play with confidence and to be successful on the basketball court. I think it's important to point out that players should have a solid foundation of basketball skills before implementing any of these offensive plays. Players need to be fundamentally sound in all areas of offense before they can be expected to run these plays. Once players are able to perform these fundamentals at the proper skill level, then the focus should be on incorporating these into an offensive game plan.
