Youth Basketball Offensive Play 9 - "Sideline 2"

Youth Basketball Offensive Play 9 is a highly effective sideline out-of-bounds play that starts in a stack formation. This play utilizes various cuts to create multiple passing and scoring opportunities for the players.

"Sideline 2" is a fairly simple play to teach and learn. If executed properly, it can be used at any level of competition. Although the play is simple, it is very effective at creating easy baskets.

One of the most important keys to being successful with sideline inbound plays is to create more than one scoring opportunity for the players.

By giving the inbound passer more than one option on the play - easy scoring opportunities are created. Plus, the defense has a more difficult time defending the play and preventing a basket.

Another key to being successful is to give the players options once the ball is passed inbounds.

If the ball handler does not have an immediate scoring opportunity once they receive the pass, then they should have a teammate who is ready to receive the pass and create a scoring opportunity.

Youth Basketball Offensive Play 9 - "Sideline 2"

To help you understand the play, please follow the key below.

• 1 = Point Guard

• 2 = Wing

• 3 = Wing

• 4 = Post

• 5 = Post

• Black Dotted Arrow = Pass

• Black Straight Arrow = Player Movement

• The players will start in a stack formation at half-court.

• 5 will be the inbound passer and will start the play by slapping the ball and yelling "Go".

• 1 will cut away from the basket into the back-court.

• 2 will cut into the front court.

• 3 will turn and rub off of 4, and then cut directly toward the basket. They should be ready for the lob pass from 5.

• 4 will step forward towards the 5.

• If 3 is open, 5 should make the lob pass to them for the lay-up.

• 5 can also make the pass to 2, who would then look for their drive or for 3 cutting to the basket.

• If 3 or 2 are not open, then 5 should look for 1 in the back-court. The team would then re-set their offense.
