Youth Basketball Offensive Play 8 - "Sideline 1"

Youth Basketball Offensive Play 8 is a highly effective sideline out-of-bounds play!

This play utilizes multiple screens and cuts to help free players from their defenders and put them in a better scoring position. This play also draws the defense out away from the basket, which opens up the lane for easy scoring opportunities.

If practiced and executed properly, "Sideline 1" will work well at any level of competition.

One of the most important keys to being successful with sideline inbound plays is to create more than one scoring opportunity for the players. By giving the inbound passer more than one option on the play - easy scoring opportunities are created. Plus, the defense has a more difficult time defending the play and preventing a basket.

Another key to being successful is to give the players options once the ball is passed inbounds. If the ball handler does not have an immediate scoring opportunity once they receive the pass, then they should have a teammate who is ready to receive the pass and create a scoring opportunity.

In order to run this play effectively, players must first understand the fundamentals of basketball. Once players can perform the offensive fundamentals properly, then inbound plays can be incorporated into their game.

Youth Basketball Offensive Play 8 - "Sideline 1"

To help you understand the play, please follow the key below.

• 1 = Point Guard

• 2 = Wing

• 3 = Wing

• 4 = Post

• 5 = Post

• Black Dotted Arrow = Pass

• Black Straight Arrow = Player Movement

• 3 will be the inbound passer and will begin this play by slapping the ball and yelling "Go".

• 1 will cut high toward the ball.

• 2 will cut high and set a back screen for 1.

• 4 and 5 will get into position to set a double screen.

• 1 will use 2's screen to cut hard to the basket.

• If 1 is open, 3 should make the lob pass to them.

• If 1 does not get the pass from 3 they should move out to the wing area on the opposite side.

• After setting the screen, 2 will step out and receive the pass from 3.

• 2 will then pass the ball over to 1 at the wing.

• After inbounding the ball, 3 will use the double screen set by 4 and 5 to cut toward the basket.

• If 3 is open, 1 should pass them the ball for a lay-up.

• If 3 does not get the pass from 1, they would establish good low post position.

• After setting the screen for 3, 5 would cut out to the free throw line and 4 would establish low post position.

• 1 can pass to either 3 in the low post or 5 at the free throw line.

• If 5 gets the pass, they can look for their shot or look to pass to 3 or 4 in the low post.

• 2 will stay back to defend against a fast break.
