Youth Basketball Offensive
Play 1: "Jump Ball 1"

Youth Basketball Offensive Play 1 is designed to help you get an easy scoring opportunity off of a jump ball situation.

This is an excellent play that is easy to teach, easy to learn, and easy to execute! The best part about this play is that it will work at any level of competition - if executed properly.

The key, of course, is to practice this play to the point of perfection. I've often noticed that when a play seems to be simpler than others - coaches and players don't think they need to work on it as much. Wrong!!

The only way to run this jump ball play effectively is to practice it on a consistent basis so that the players are extremely comfortable with it. By doing this, the team will be able to execute this play properly and create many easy scoring opportunities!

  • 5 will tap the ball to 1.

  • 2 will cut out toward the wing area.

  • After 5 taps the ball, 4 will set a back screen for them.

  • 5 will use the back screen to move out to the wing area and then cut hard to the basket.

  • 1 will look for a long pass to 5 or a pass to 2 on the wing.

  • If 5 or 2 gets the pass, they should immediately look to drive to the basket.
