Simple Youth Basketball Play 9: "Thirty"


Simple Youth Basketball Play 9 is called "Thirty". This is an excellent play that involves a lot of motion, screening and cutting by the players. This action helps create multiple scoring opportunities.

To help you understand the play, please follow the key below.

  • 1 = Point Guard

  • 2 = Wing

  • 3 = Wing

  • 4 = Post

  • 5 = Post

  • Black Dotted Arrow = Pass

  • Black Straight Arrow = Player Movement

  • The players will start in a 3 out - 2 in formation.

  • 1 will pass the ball to 2 and then cut into the lane.

  • As this is happening, 5 cuts up to the high post.

  • If 1 is open, 2 should make the pass to them. 1 would then drive in for a lay-up.

  • If 1 does not get the pass, they should continue through the lane and set a screen for 4.

  • 4 will set up their defender with a good fake and then cut shoulder to shoulder off 1's screen.

  • If 4 is open in the lane, 2 should make the pass to them.

  • As this action is happening, 3 should rotate to the top of the key.

  • If 4 is not open, then 2 should pass to 3 at the top of the key.

  • 1 should pop out to the wing for a pass from 3.

  • When 1 receives the pass from 3, 5 will go to the low post and 4 will go to the high post.

  • 1 will either look to shoot or look to pass to 4 or 5.

  • If 1 shoots, 5, 4 and 2 crash the boards for a rebound.

  • 3 stays back to defend against a fast break.
