Simple Youth Basketball Play 11: "1-4 Wing"


Simple Youth Basketball Play 11 is called "1-4 Wing". This is an excellent play that utilizes multiple screens, a lot of cutting, and constant movement by all five players.

When executed properly, this play creates multiple scoring options and is very difficult to defend!

To help you understand the play, please follow the key below.

  • 1 = Point Guard

  • 2 = Wing

  • 3 = Wing

  • 4 = Post

  • 5 = Post

  • Black Dotted Arrow = Pass

  • Black Straight Arrow = Player Movement

  • The players start in a 1-4 high formation.

  • 1 can pass to either wing to start the offense.

  • 1 passes to 3.

  • After passing to 3, 1 will use 5's screen to cut toward the basket looking for a return pass from 3.

  • If 1 is open, 3 should make the pass to them.

  • If 1 does not get the pass from 3, they should continue through the lane and use the double screen set by 2 and 4 at the low post area.

  • 1 should cut out to the wing area.

  • After setting the double screen for 1, 4 will move out to the top of the key.

  • 3 will pass the ball to 4 who will swing it over to 1.

  • As this is happening, each ball handler should be looking for a drive to the basket or an open teammate in the lane area.

  • The players could also run the play again from the other side of the court. As 4 passes to 1, 2 would come up to set the screen to start the play.

  • Option: When 3 has the ball, 5 could come out and set a back screen. They could then run the pick and roll play.

  • 3 would dribble to the elbow area and 5 would roll toward the basket.
