Shoot Hoops With Your Child

by Coach T.

As simple as this sounds, I would have to say that the biggest tip I can give for basketball parents is to just get out there and shoot hoops with your child.

It doesn't necessarily have to be a basketball game or shooting drill, but rather just a shoot-around. You will be amazed at how much that means to your child. Plus, it's a great time to bond with them.

In addition to the bonding time, this is also a great opportunity to work on their shooting skills, if they are up for it. Sometimes kids just want to shoot the basketball for the fun and enjoyment of it, while other times they are more interested in really fine-tuning their skills. They'll let you know what they want to do.

The important thing for us, the basketball parents, is to just get out there with them and have some fun. Everything else will take care of itself.

This would be my number one tip for youth basketball parents.

Great Tip For Basketball Parents
by: Joe Waters - webmaster

Coach T thanks for offering such a great tip for basketball parents.

Yes, shooting hoops with your child is an easy and fun way to get involved with their basketball experience.

You don't have to be a great shooter or even know what you're doing...just get out there and play with them. Your child will really appreciate your time and effort, and it is a great bonding time.

I shoot hoops with my kids all the time. It has evolved over the years from a simple shoot-around to a more competitive nature. One on one games, shooting challenges, games of H-O-R-S-E and whatever else they can think of.

But, I always let them decide what they want to do. This makes it a fun, no-pressure situation. The only problem I'm finding these days...they're getting better than me :)

Thanks again Coach T for the great tip for basketball parents.
