Dribble
by: wim Cluytens

Reverse dribble: used to go by a defender by pivoting on your lead foot backwards ,change the dribble hand when your (dribble) shoulder or back is turned to the defender , and pass him on the other side.

A little more difficult ,but faster, is reversing without changing the dribble hand (sometimes called "the whirl")

Pullback or backup is used when aggressively attacked by one or two defenders(e.g. a trap situation). Dribble very low backwards while
still looking forward. Another situation to use it is when being stopped while penetrating a zone defense.

Dribble
by: Wim Cluytens

We call reverse dribble the change of direction going to your back (bringing your dribble leg backwards and so turning your shoulder
to the defender ,change hands while pivoting ,and passing the defender on the other side.

It's faster but a little more difficult is making the reverse dribble with the same hand (sometimes called "whirl")

Backup or pullback dribble is dribbling very low backwards but still looking forward to the aggressive defender(s). Can be used
when double teamed or when being stopped while penetrating a zone defense

Dribbling tips...
by: Joe Waters - webmaster

Thanks for the great basketball questions Britt.

Here are some simple definitions for you...

1. Reverse Dribble - A dribble move used to change directions. Also called a spin dribble.

Let's say you're dribbling the basketball to your right and your defender is about to cut you off - you could use a reverse dribble to spin away from them and take the basketball to your left.

2. Pull-Back Dribble - A dribble used to avoid defensive pressure or traps.

On this dribble you would slide back or move away from the defender while maintaining a controlled dribble.

I hope this information helps you. Good luck with your off-season training.
