Proper Communication Is The Key To Success

As a basketball coach I have found one of the most important things I can do is to communicate in a positive way. A coach must interact with players, parents, referees and administrators to show they have the best interests of the players in mind.

Through my behavior and communication, I strive to set an example for the kids and help them learn caring, honesty, respect and responsibility. These qualities are just as important on the basketball court as shooting skills.

On the court I teach skills in a way that kids enjoy. To keep practices from becoming routine, I include a variety of activities and keep all players involved at all times. Humor is an excellent coaching tool that helps keep mistakes in perspective and allows the players to relax and enjoy practicing and learning.

I make a genuine effort to get to know each player on the team and their strengths and weaknesses so I can work with them individually as they learn new skills.

I stress to parents that the best basketball player is one that thoroughly enjoys all aspects of the sport. Respect, enthusiasm, fairness and a positive attitude is necessary for your child’s athletic success.
