Top 6 Fundraising Ideas

Have you been tasked with coming up with different fundraising ideas for your basketball team? Don’t be discouraged or overwhelmed. There are tons of different fundraising ideas you can try that will bring in the money your team needs. These ideas are great for junior high or high school basketball teams, college basketball teams, cheerleaders, and church or community basketball teams. For the best success, involve everyone you can – team members, coaches, teachers, parents, community members and fans.

Cookie Dough

Everyone loves fresh baked cookies and fundraisers selling tubs of refrigerated or frozen cookie dough always do well. You can get all sorts of delicious flavors, including traditional favorites like chocolate chip, sugar cookies, oatmeal cookies and snickerdoodles. You can also get slightly fancier flavors like white chocolate macadamia nut, double chocolate chip and peanut butter cup cookie dough. Expect profit margins of 30 to 50 percent.

Pizza

As much as people all love cookies, they love pizza, too. Talk to local pizza restaurants about getting gift cards for free pizzas. Pizza restaurants will often give you a large discount on gift cards or certificates for free pizzas because it brings in new customers for them. You can sell certificates for free pizzas at schools, churches, businesses, other community organizations or simply door to door. Expect profit margins of as much as 70 to 90 percent. Because it’s so profitable and so easy to do, this is one of most popular of all the different fundraising ideas for basketball teams.

Candy

Everyone loves candy so it’s easy to sell. You can sell individual candy bars or larger boxes of chocolates or other treats. Candy sales are good at any time of year. You can sell Christmas candy in winter, Easter candy in spring and candy bars and other sweet treats at any time of year. Sell candy door to do, to businesses, at schools, at pep rallies, at sporting events, anywhere you can think of. Just make sure to get permission first. Expect a profit margin of 50 to 60 percent.

Cookbooks

Compared to some different fundraising ideas, this one is a bit more work but it’s also a great seller and it’s something lots of people can get involved with and support. Collect favorite recipes from team members and supporters, organize them and have them printed as a cookbook. Everyone can get involved in some way, whether it’s donating recipes, collecting recipes from family members and friends, organizing the recipes, helping with artwork for the book or the cover, or simply selling the finished cookbooks to family members, friends and associates.

Many companies these days will help you put together a cookbook, if your organization doesn’t have anyone that knows how to do the layout and formatting, and you can order as few or as many copies as you want. Expect a profit of anywhere from $3 to $10 per cookbook that you sell.

Scratch Cards

Scratch cards are fun and easy and are unique compared to many different fundraising ideas you see done over and over again. You can have them printed any way you like and everyone, young and old, enjoys scratching them off to see if they’ve won anything. Expect profits of up to 90 percent.

Candles

Decorative candles, especially scented ones, are popular fundraising items. You can take orders from friends, family members and associates or hold a candle party. Invite everyone you can think of, serve snacks or desserts and show off all the candles you have available for sale. Candles sales work especially well around the winter holidays because people like to buy them to give as gifts. Expect profit margins of about 50 percent.
