Creative Fund Raising Ideas

People are always looking for creative fund raising ideas for their local basketball teams. The most successful fundraising ideas are not only financially lucrative, they are fun for all involved and help develop enthusiasm and support for the team.

Some successful fundraising ideas that have been done time and time again include things like car washes, gift wrapping, cow patty bingo, karaoke night, pancake breakfasts, popcorn parties and cook offs. Come up with a new twist on these creative fund raising ideas and watch them bring in the money your team needs.

Popcorn Party

Everyone loves popcorn and a popcorn party can be held at any time of year. You’ll probably have better luck not trying it right around the winter holidays, though, since most people are so busy with other things during that time. For the greatest success, show family friendly films either indoors or outdoors in nice weather and sell a variety of popcorn treats along with sodas and other drinks.

Have plenty of movie style buttered popcorn on hand, of course, but consider these other creative fund raising ideas for popcorn treats, as well: caramel popcorn, cheddar cheese popcorn and Jello popcorn. To make Jello popcorn, simply combine ½ cup sugar, one cup Karo syrup and one package of Jello in your favorite flavor and heat in a medium saucepan over medium heat until it begins to boil. Pour the mixture over nine cups of popped corn and mix well.

Pancake Breakfast

A pancake breakfast is one of the more popular and successful fundraising ideas around but if you want to have the best luck with it, be creative. Serve a variety of tasty pancakes, such as buttermilk pancakes, blueberry pancakes and chocolate chip pancakes. Offer a variety of toppings, such as maple syrup, blueberry syrup, powdered sugar and whipped topping. Have something for the health conscious diners as well, like sugar free syrup or fresh fruit topping. Of course you should serve coffee, tea, milk and juice along with your pancakes.

Hold your pancake breakfast on a Saturday morning at a local school, church or community center. Consider inviting a local celebrity like a sports figure or radio personality to share breakfast with the diners, or consider having someone dress up as a favorite character to eat with the kids. Advertise the event widely in advance, of course.

Spare a Dollar

The Spare a Dollar fundraiser is one of the simpler yet successful fundraising ideas we’ve seen. Ask people to commit to sparing a dollar a day, or if that’s too much for their budgets, a quarter a day or a dime a day. Provide colorful containers in convenient locations for people to deposit their daily dollars, quarters or dimes. With small amounts, even children can easily participate and donate money to the team.

Use leftover coffee cans or large jars with holes cut into the lids to hold the money and decorate the containers so they are bright and eye-catching. Team members can help collect and decorate the containers, allowing them to share their own creative fund raising ideas. Ask local businesses, schools and community organizations if you can put a container on their counters or desks to collect funds.

Cook Off

A good old fashioned cook off is one of the most creative fund raising ideas out there because it allows everyone to get involved and express their own creativity. Those that like to cook can enter a dish and those that aren’t so handy in the kitchen can enjoy tasting all the delicious entries. Consider a bake off, a wing cook off or a chili cook off. You can sell a variety of cold drinks to attendees as well as charging for bowls of chili or pieces of pie.

Related successful fundraising ideas include selling recipe books of all the entries and raffling off door prizes during the cook off.
